In aquariums it works as a biological filtration substrate: beneficial nitrifying bacteria colonise its surface and convert toxic ammonia (NH&#8323;\/NH&#8324;&#8314;) and nitrite (NO&#8322;&#8315;) into far less harmful nitrate (NO&#8323;&#8315;). Beyond aquaculture, the same resilient, open-structure media is cut and framed into panel filters for air and water treatment.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Material Properties<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Made from an environmentally friendly, rigid coarse-filament material that is ideal for colonising nitrifying bacteria.<\/li>\n<li>High elasticity and large surface area; resists tearing and stays effective underwater for 5+ years without loosening.<\/li>\n<li>Resistant to chemicals, water, light and flame; water-permeable, breathable and temperature-stable.<\/li>\n<li>Reusable: can be rinsed and cycled repeatedly, lowering lifetime operating cost.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively traps suspended solids while maintaining low resistance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Standard Sheet Sizes &amp; Density<\/h2>\n<p>Standard roll\/sheet sizes are 1 m &times; 2 m &times; 30 mm and 1 m &times; 2 m &times; 38 mm, with a media density of 40 kg\/m&sup3;.
