In many jurisdictions the exhaust duct and any energy-recovery unit in it must be within reach of the automatic sprinkler or fire-suppression system, and the unit must not obstruct the fire damper or the make-up air smoke path. The recovery core should include a fire\/smoke bypass so that in an alarm the exhaust routes around it, preserving the designed fire airflow. These details are not optional extras; they are part of the
