Cold Chain Logistics Heat Recovery: From Cold Store to Condenser

Table des matières

Cold stores, freezers, and refrigerated warehouses move heat out continuously. That rejected heat is a free resource - if you capture it. Cold-chain recovery turns a pure energy cost into a partial energy gain.

  • Condenser reject - the biggest, hottest stream (30-50C). Route it to space heating or water via air-to-water recovery.
  • Defrost heat - electric or hot-gas defrost warms coils; recover the hot-gas portion.
  • Ventilation - dock and packing areas exhaust conditioned air; an AHU recovery core pre-heats incoming make-up air.

Supermarkets with cold chains already do this (see retail recovery). Food plants pair it with process recovery. The principle is the same as waste-heat basics: capture high grade first.

Continuous refrigeration loads make recovery pay back in 2-4 years. Validate with a payback calculation.
