Membrane Air Conditioning Systems

목차

embrane air conditioning systems separate the sensible and latent cooling loads using a liquid-desiccant loop and a membrane contactor, rather than a single overcooling coil. The result is drier supply air at a higher coil evaporating temperature — which raises the chiller COP.

A typical unit pairs a membrane energy recovery ventilation core with a desiccant regenerator. The air-side hardware follows standard AHU components: fans, filters, coils, and the membrane module.

  • Less compressor lift → higher COP.
  • Less reheat energy because the coil no longer overcools.
  • Better control of supply RH independent of supply temperature.

Building type Benefit
Humid-climate offices Large latent load, strong fit
Laboratories See laboratory heat recovery
Dry climates Marginal — use sensible recovery

For sizing the air handler around a membrane module, use the method in AHU selection calculation. Membrane AC is best viewed as an extension of total-energy recovery, not a replacement for it.
